What you will actually do
- Outpatient and inpatient care for railway staff, pensioners and families
- Emergency and night duty in railway hospitals
- Periodic medical examination of loco pilots, station masters and other safety staff
- Medical relief at accident sites with the accident relief medical van
- Running a health unit: staff, medicines, sanitation and reports
- Certifying fitness and sickness of employees
A typical day
At a divisional hospital your day is OPD, ward rounds and a share of emergency duty. At a health unit in a smaller station you are often the only doctor: clinic in the morning, medical examinations of running staff, and being on call when an accident or a sick passenger needs a doctor. Certifying whether a loco pilot is fit to drive is a responsibility specific to this service. Quarters are usually within the railway colony.
