What you will actually do
- Driving troop carriers, trucks, buses and light vehicles
- Convoy driving in operational areas
- Daily checks and first-line maintenance of the vehicle
- Maintaining log books and fuel records
- Guard and other unit duties when not driving
A typical day
You are in the battalion's motor transport section with a vehicle in your charge. On a normal day you check it, carry personnel or rations between camps and return it clean. In operational areas driving is the dangerous part of the job: convoys on roads where mines and ambushes are a risk, following strict road-opening drills. Between runs you do the same camp duties as everyone else.

Eligibility: Class 10 pass, a Heavy Transport Vehicle driving licence, and you must pass the driving test at the time of recruitment. Age 21–27. SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, ex-servicemen: 3 years after deducting military service, as per the notification.
Physical standards: Men: height 170 cm; women: 157 cm, with relaxations for ST and hill candidates. Run: 5 km in 24 minutes for men and 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes for women.
