What you will actually do

  • Analysing economic data and trends for a ministry

  • Monitoring prices, trade, industry or agriculture indicators
  • Drafting replies to Parliament questions on economic matters

A typical day

You work in the economic division of a ministry, mostly at a computer. A typical day involves pulling the latest data, updating a note on sector trends, commenting on another ministry's proposal and drafting a brief for a senior officer's meeting. Before the Budget and the Economic Survey the hours are long. There is little field work and almost no public dealing.
