What you will actually do
- Collecting household and enterprise data for National Sample Survey rounds
- Collecting price data for consumer and wholesale price indices
- Supervising field investigators and checking filled schedules
- Scrutinising and validating survey data on tablets or the portal
- Compiling tables and helping draft statistical reports
A typical day
In the Field Operations Division, where most new officers start, you travel to sample villages and urban blocks, interview households or shopkeepers using a long schedule on a tablet, and upload the data. Some visits are to remote villages with a full day's travel. Back at the office you check the entries of contract investigators and answer scrutiny queries. In a headquarters posting the work is purely desk-based data compilation.
