What you will actually do
- Scrutinising and tabulating census and sample registration data
- Supporting census operations: training, logistics and monitoring in the field
- Compiling birth, death and other vital statistics
- Checking data quality and preparing statistical tables
- Assisting in drafting reports and replies to data requests
A typical day
Outside census years the job is largely at a desk in a Directorate of Census Operations: checking returns from the Sample Registration System, cleaning data and preparing tables. Field visits happen for surveys and inspections. During a census the workload changes completely, with travel to districts, training of enumerators and long days chasing progress reports.
