A courier franchise is the local point of a courier or e-commerce delivery company. A booking franchise accepts parcels and documents at a counter and earns a share of the booking charge. A delivery franchise receives the day's parcels for assigned pin codes and delivers them with its own riders for a fee per parcel. Many outlets do both. It needs a small ground-floor shop, a computer, a weighing scale and one or two riders. It suits someone organised, with a shop in a busy area, who can manage riders and daily cash. Earnings depend on volume, which the company and the location largely decide. The hard parts are thin payout per parcel, penalties for late or lost parcels, rider turnover, and franchise terms that can change.

Skills needed: Basic computer skills, discipline with daily scanning and cash, and the ability to manage delivery staff.

How it works

  1. Receive and scan the morning load; sort by route.
  2. Send riders out; update delivery status and collect cash-on-delivery amounts.
  3. Accept bookings at the counter: check contents, weigh, bill and label.
  4. Hand over outgoing parcels to the company vehicle; return undelivered parcels by the deadline.
  5. Deposit cash-on-delivery money daily and reconcile with the company's report.

Loan route

Mudra loan (Kishore)

Own money ₹40,790 · Loan ₹3.67 lakh · EMI ≈ ₹8,560

No collateral, no subsidy.

How Mudra works

PMEGP (new units)

Subsidy ₹61,184 (general, urban) to ₹1.43 lakh (special category, rural). EMI ≈ ₹7,133–₹5,706.

Own money 5–10%. Subsidy is held as a 3-year deposit, then adjusted against the loan.

How PMEGP works

Assumes 10.5% interest, 5 years including a 6-month moratorium. PMEGP was approved up to FY 2025-26. Check on the KVIC PMEGP portal that applications are open before you plan around the subsidy.

No collateral and no third-party guarantee (covered by the Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units).

Who buys and how to sell

Buyers

  • Online shoppers in your pin codes (through the company)
  • Local shops, traders and small manufacturers sending parcels
  • Offices, banks and lawyers sending documents
  • Online sellers needing regular pick-ups

Ways to sell

  • The company's allotted delivery volume
  • A visible counter in a market area
  • Monthly accounts with local businesses
  • Pick-up service for online sellers

Season: Peaks during festival sale periods and before Diwali and Rakhi; steady otherwise.

Competition: Other courier outlets, India Post and e-commerce companies' own delivery stations. A busy location and reliable pick-ups win local business accounts.

Risks and how to handle them

Payout per parcel or the allotted area is cut by the company

Read the agreement, build your own booking customers and avoid depending on one income line.

Penalties for lost, damaged or late parcels and cash shortages

Scan at every step, use CCTV, reconcile cash daily and verify riders' identity.

Riders leave during peak season

Pay on time, add per-parcel incentives and keep part-time riders on call.

Fraudulent franchise offers

Deal only with the company's official channels and confirm by phone with its regional office.

Tips from the trade

  • Monthly accounts with local traders and online sellers are worth more than walk-in parcels.
  • Cash-on-delivery money is not yours; bank it the same day.
  • Ask existing franchisees of the same company about real volumes before paying the deposit.

Questions people ask

How much does a courier franchise earn?+

It depends on volume. One franchise-industry estimate puts net income at roughly ₹25,000–70,000 a month once volumes stabilise, but small-town outlets can earn much less. Use the calculator with the payout and volume the company quotes you.

Is the deposit refundable?+

Terms differ by company and plan. Some describe a refundable security deposit plus a non-refundable fee. Get the refund conditions in writing.

How much investment is needed to start a courier franchise business?+

About ₹4.08 lakh for a small unit: ₹1.79 lakh for machinery and equipment, ₹1.74 lakh for set-up costs and ₹54,896 as working capital (stock, credit to buyers and one month of expenses). Prices as of October 2026.

How much profit can a courier franchise business make per month?+

At 55% of capacity, sales are about ₹85,800 a month and operating profit about ₹20,073 before the loan instalment. After an EMI of about ₹8,560, the owner keeps about ₹11,513 a month until the loan is repaid. These are estimates; your prices, rent and sales decide the real figure.
