A two-wheeler garage does periodic servicing (oil, filters, chain, brakes), repairs and engine work, washing, and sells the oil and spare parts used. It needs a shop on a road with space to park bikes, a set of tools, a compressor and one or two service lifts. It suits a trained mechanic, because customers trust the person who fixes their bike. Income comes from labour charges plus a margin on oil and parts. The profit shown assumes the owner is the main mechanic. The hard parts are authorised service centres for bikes under warranty, fuel-injected and electric models that need diagnostic tools and new skills, parts stock, and customers who delay payment.

Skills needed: ITI (two-wheeler mechanic) or several years' experience in a garage. Fuel-injection diagnostics and electric scooter repair are becoming necessary.

Who buys and how to sell

Buyers

  • Bike and scooter owners nearby (out of warranty)
  • Delivery riders and couriers
  • Shops and offices with several two-wheelers
  • Used-bike dealers

Ways to sell

  • A roadside shop with a clear signboard
  • Service reminders by phone or WhatsApp
  • Pick-up and drop, breakdown calls
  • Monthly maintenance deals for delivery fleets

Season: Steady, with more work in the monsoon (brakes, electricals, rust) and before festivals and long trips.

Competition: Authorised service centres, multi-brand chains and many roadside mechanics. Honest diagnosis, fair bills and quick delivery build a regular customer base.

Risks and how to handle them

Newer fuel-injected and electric models cannot be repaired with old skills

Buy a scanner, take manufacturer or ITI short courses and learn electric scooter basics early.

Fake or low-quality parts cause comebacks

Buy genuine or reputed OEM parts from authorised distributors and show the customer the pack.

Money locked in slow-moving parts

Stock only fast-moving parts for common models; source the rest daily from the wholesale market.

Injury or fire from fuel, batteries and lifts

Keep an extinguisher, no smoking near fuel work, and use stands and lifts correctly.

Tips from the trade

  • Delivery riders service their bikes often; a fleet tie-up fills slow days.
  • A written job card and returning old parts build trust quickly.
  • Engine oil sales are a dependable margin; stock the grades common in your area.

Questions people ask

Can I get an authorised service centre for a bike brand instead?+

Brands appoint authorised service points through their dealers, with their own space, tool and investment requirements, which are much higher than for an independent garage. Ask the local dealer of the brand.

Do I need to be a mechanic to own a garage?+

Not legally, but garages run by a working mechanic do much better. If you hire mechanics, your income depends on keeping them.

How much investment is needed to start a two-wheeler service centre business?+

About ₹3.76 lakh for a small unit: ₹2.01 lakh for machinery and equipment, ₹52,000 for set-up costs and ₹1.23 lakh as working capital (stock, credit to buyers and one month of expenses). Prices as of October 2026.

How much profit can a two-wheeler service centre business make per month?+

At 55% of capacity, sales are about ₹1.5 lakh a month and operating profit about ₹22,109 before the loan instalment. After an EMI of about ₹7,881, the owner keeps about ₹14,228 a month until the loan is repaid. These are estimates; your prices, rent and sales decide the real figure.

Which machines are needed for two-wheeler service centre?+

Air compressor (₹20,000–₹50,000).

Can I get a Mudra loan or PMEGP subsidy for two-wheeler service centre?+

With a project cost of about ₹3.76 lakh, the bank loan of about ₹3.38 lakh falls under Mudra Kishore. Mudra has no subsidy. As a new unit you may instead apply under PMEGP, where the subsidy is 15–35% of the project cost (up to about ₹1.31 lakh here for a special-category applicant in a rural area). PMEGP was approved up to FY 2025-26. Check on the KVIC PMEGP portal that applications are open before you plan around the subsidy.

What licences are required for two-wheeler service centre?+

Mandatory: Shop and Establishment registration, Used oil and battery disposal. Depending on your set-up you may also need: Local body trade licence, GST registration, Udyam registration.
